A north-east man has been jailed for threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend and her family after flying into a jealous rage.
Jamie Angus appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted attacking his former partner Lauren Somers on September 23 last year after accusing her of being unfaithful.
He also admitted threatening to kill her and her family.
The court heard that Angus had been looking after the couple’s young daughter at his mother’s home when he phoned Ms Somers, accusing her of being unfaithful, and telling her that he wasn’t going give their daughter back.
Distressed following the phone call, Ms Somers made her way to the address in Willowpark Crescent, Aberdeen, to see her daughter.
Following altercations at the door, the court heard Angus grabbed his ex-girlfriend by the throat, repeatedly seized her by the hair, threw her to the ground, and attempted to bite her.
Fiscal depute Kelly Mitchell said Ms Somers later managed to leave the home with her daughter, and noticing that she was in distress, a nearby resident went to assist her.
The court heard later that night, after Miss Somers visited the hospital for treatment following the assault.
Angus, a prisoner in HMP Grampian, also admitted a further charge of behaving in a racially abusive manner towards Terri Begg.
The court heard on September 24, officers arrested the 26-year-old following a brief chase on foot where he attempted to evade the police.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan said that although Angus regretted his actions, his crimes were still deemed to be of an “exceptionally unpleasant and nasty nature”.
He was sentenced to two years and three months in jail.
