An man has been fined after admitting threatening a woman in a row over a washing machine.
Lewis Hewat, 36, of 291 Mackintosh Road, Inverness, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in his home street by shouting, swearing and making threats towards the woman on August 10 last year, and was fined £250.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Hewat launched into a foul-mouthed tirade after encountering the woman and her three children in the street.
Fiscal depute Michelle Molley told Sheriff Margaret Neilson that Hewat had called the woman a liar and various other names.
Ms Molley said: “The children were terrified and tried to move away from what was happening.
“Mr Hewet then told her that he was going to get her soon, with or without the kids.”
The court heard that the disagreement was about a washing machine belonging to the woman, which Hewat felt was too loud for the tenement building they both stayed in.
Hewat’s defence agent Grant Hassan said: “My client understands that he exercised poor judgement in this instance.
“He realises that there are better ways of dealing with complaints, such as reporting them to the police.”
