A motorist caught driving at 81mph in a 30mph zone – without a licence – has been banned from the roads.
Anthony Skyner appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted speeding and getting behind the wheel without a licence.
The court heard the 27-year-old was spotted in a hire car on the A96 Great Northern Road close to the junction with Queen Street at around 12.45am.
He was in the north-east visiting friends at the time of the incident when he was picked up on police cameras driving at excessive speeds.
Defence agent Bob Anderson said Skyner, of 77 Woodhall Road, Liverpool, suffers from “medical difficulties” which includes paranoid schizophrenia and depression.
He said he regularly takes medicine to “maintain a stable existence” .
Mr Anderson said when Skyner was caught behind the wheel on July 2 last year, he had run out of his medicine and was suffering from an “episode”.
He said due to the early hour the offence was committed there was “very little” traffic on the road.
Sentencing Skyner, Sheriff Alison Stirling said: “I am concerned at the speed you were going at the time, which was more than twice the speed limit.”
She banned Skyner from the roads for six months and fined him £300.
He was fined a further £100 after he admitted failing to attend a previous trial hearing.
