An Inverness woman stabbed her husband with a knife after she heard him talking about her drink problem to a friend, Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday.
Elizabeth Taylor had been battling an alcohol problem for last five years of her 22-year marriage to Stewart.
But on April 15 last year, it turned violent when Taylor, 55, produced a knife with a 10 inch blade and stabbed her spouse on the top of his left leg, just below his buttock.
Yesterday, she admitted assaulting him to his severe injury and danger of life at their home at 2 Milton Crescent.
Fiscal Roderick Urquhart told Sheriff Margaret Neilson: “She had difficulties with alcohol in the previous five years and had either been off work or had been suspended at the time.
“Her husband had gone out for a walk with the dogs and returned about 8pm to find his wife intoxicated. He phoned one of her friends and was discussing her alcohol problem when she left the room and returned with a kitchen knife which had a 10 inch long blade.
“He told her not to be stupid and she said: ‘Is this what you want?’ Her husband began to move away and had his back to her when she stabbed him on the buttock.
“A neighbour heard a shout and Mr Taylor calling for an ambulance. He had crawled into the hallway with an injury to his leg and his wife was standing there looking confused and scared.
“Police were called and he was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department with a wound to the middle of the thigh at the junction with the buttock.
“He was taken to theatre so it could be examined. Surgeons said there were major blood vessels in the thigh and it was the potential of the injury which results in danger of life.
“However none of them were severed. There will be scarring but unlikely to be permanent impairment.”
Defence solicitor Willie Young said he would reserve his comments until a background report had been prepared.
Taylor will re-appear for sentence on March 18 and her bail was continued.
