An Aberdeen man who sexually assaulted two woman in a city nightclub has ended up in a wheelchair after jumping from his first-floor flat to attend a court-ordered appointment.
Pawel Lukaszewicz appeared at the city’s sheriff court to be sentenced, having previously admitted groping one woman’s crotch and grabbing another’s breasts at Club Tropicana and Vogue on July 25 last year.
However his sentence had to be delayed further yesterday because he missed a scheduled meeting with social workers.
The court heard that when the 28-year-old found himself locked in his flat, he flung himself out of his window, breaking several bones in his arms and legs in the process.
He is now using a wheelchair in order to get about.
As a result of his injuries, he had to be taken to hospital and missed the crucial appointment.
Lukaszewicz had also been due to be sentenced for assaulting a bouncer at Babylon nightclub the day after the sex attacks.
He admitted striking him in the leg with his knee on July 26 last year.
The court heard he had attended one social work appointment, missed another and a further one had been cancelled.
Representing Lukaszewicz, of 28 Muggiemoss Road, Aberdeen, solicitor advocate Gail Goodfellow said: “I again request my lady to further defer matters for the assessment previously ordered to be completed.
“And I do that in the knowledge that my lady has concerns, firstly regarding what on the face of it appears to be a lack of compassion and also his attitude towards the offences and the preparation of the report.
“He went to leave his flat in the morning to attend (the) appointment, but unfortunately he had been inadvertently locked in his flat by his flatmate.
“In a panic and afraid to miss the social work appointment, he decided to jump out of the window, not thinking he would injure himself.
“But predictably he did, and that resulted in him being taken to hospital, then missing the appointment.
“That is his position and so, with respect, it perhaps can’t be said he is not cooperating.”
She added he is now “taking matters seriously” in relation to the offences.
She said: “He does accept full responsibility. He has no recollection of behaving in the manner [he did], but accepts that he did so and is truly ashamed and wishes to apologise to the ladies concerned for the upset he caused.”
Sheriff Stirling said his attitude in the past “had been a concern”.
She added: “If you persist in your attitude you will be going to prison for a lengthy period.”
Sentence was deferred until March 15 to allow the background reports to be completed.
