A young Irishman who behaved in a disorderly manner in a Thurso bar was fined £260 at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday.
Craig Malone, 22, of 9 The Meadows, Thangan, County Kildare, admitted a breach of the peace at Mr C’s in Thurso on July 17, last year.
The court was told that it was approaching midnight when Malone and another customer had “a brief physical exchange”. The accused was ejected from the bar.
Malone, who was working in the area as a technician at the time, had gone for a drink after work and was said to have only “a vague recollection” of the incident.
A man who called at Wick police station for assistance was found to be carrying a knife.
Gary Bell, 30, had requested help with some paperwork on June 12, last year, but officers were suspicious about his demeanour, searched him and found the lockable folding knife.
Bell , of 2 Calder Square, Castletown village, told police he was a fisherman and used the blade for his work. He pleaded guilty to having the knife in Bankhead Road, Wick, and at the police station nearby. The accused was on bail at the time.
Sentence was deferred until March 18 for a background report.
