The former chief executive of a west Highland fishing association is to stand trial on an embezzlement charge.
John Hermse, 59, of Argus Lodge, Wards Road, Elgin, appeared before Fort William Sheriff Court yesterday (Tuesday) charged with embezzling around £7,000 from the Mallaig and North West Fishermen’s Association, of Harbour Buildings, Mallaig.
The charge alleges that he committed the offence between April 1, 2010, and January 31, 2013, at 23 Roag, Dunvegan, on Skye, Argus Lodge, and elsewhere in Scotland while secretary and subsequently chief executive of the association.
Hermse pleaded not guilty at a previous court appearance and Sheriff Richard Davidson yesterday continued the case to trial on May 25, with an intermediate hearing on April 26.
