A Moray home carer has been banned from the road after being caught driving almost four times over the legal alcohol limit.
Bogumila Ben-Amarr, who is originally from Poland, but has lived in Scotland for the last 10 years, was making her way to work at a home in Elgin when another driver noticed she was navigating the road in an erratic fashion.
Fiscal depute Alison Wylie said: “Another motorist formed the opinion the accused may have been drunk due to the manner of her driving.
“He followed her to the West Road filling station, where an employee also said they could smell alcohol from her.”
When police officers caught up with Ben-Amarr, they discovered that she had 82 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, nearly four times the legal limit of 22mcg.
The accused, of 1 Struan Grove in Dallas, outside Forres, admitted a charge of drink driving.
Her solicitor, Brent Lockie, said Ben-Ammar was a recovering alcoholic who had staved off her addiction for more than a decade before returning to the bottle in recent months.
Mr Lockie said: “After 12 years of sobriety, my client started drinking again following the end of a long-term relationship and being placed on a zero-hours contract.
“Since this incident, she has been attending Alcoholics Anonymous sessions.”
Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov deferred sentencing on the accused to allow background reports to be completed, and disqualified her from driving in the meantime.
