A young man who broke into a Wick shop and stole four bottles of vodka was jailed for six months at the town’s sheriff court, yesterday.
Adam Hope, 25, was said to turn to alcohol when things went wrong in his life.
He staged the break-in at Malcolm’s shop in Kinnaird Street, Wick on February 2, after a family fall-out. Police had no difficulty in tracing him as the incident was captured on CCTV. Hope pleaded guilty and admitted a record when he appeared from custody.
The court was told that Hope had earlier travelled from his home in Shetland to Wick to spend Christmas with his family.
Solicitor George Mathers said that Hope was on remand from the court at Shetland in connection with a fireraising charge. His address in the islands is 2 Craigpark Road, Scalloway.
Sheriff Andrew Berry told the accused that given his record of disorderly behaviour and failure to comply with court orders, prison was the only appropriate sentence.
