A sex offender who made unwanted advances towards a woman passenger on a Ross-shire bus was jailed for seven months yesterday.
Marek Godlewski, who is fighting deportation back to Poland by the UK government, was thrown off the bus by other passengers after he grabbed one of them by the throat.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told yesterday that the passenger had intervened to assist the young woman but was assaulted by a drunk Godlowski.
Sheriff David Sutherland was told by defence agent Patrick O’Dea that his client had drunk a litre of vodka before the offences.
But Mr O’Dea said his client was taking steps to tackle his alcohol intake and was receiving counselling.
The incidents happened on December 4 last year on an afternoon bus between Conon Bridge and Dingwall.
Godlewski, 20 Meiklefield Road, Dingwall admitted a breach of the peace and assault.
Sheriff Sutherland told him: “The public have a right to be protected when travelling on a bus. Given your record and the fact you are a sex offender placed on the register for 10 years, a custodial sentence is the only appropriate way of dealing with you.”
A 22 year old Irish construction worker spat at a door steward who had been trying to eject him from an Inverness public house.
Yesterday at the city’s Sheriff Court, Jason Collins, Curraraigue, Banteer, Mallow, County Cork was fined a total of £800 after he admitted refusing to be removed from licensed premises when requested and assaulting the bouncer.
