A man who drove with more than three times the legal limit of alcohol and lied to the police about his identity, has been fined £1000 and banned from driving for a year.
Alistair Millar 44, was breathalysed positive after being stopped by police in Ormlie Road, Thurso, on March 26th.
A further test revealed a breath alcohol level of 70mgs – the legal limit is 22mgs.. He gave officers a false name but subsequently owned up.
Solicitor Sylvia MacLennan said that Millar, of 31 High Street Rishton, Lancs. had panicked and had made matters worse by giving police a false name.
The accused, who admitted charges of driving with excess alcohol and attempting to pervert the course of justice, is currently working on a fixed contract in the Caithness area.
