A Lochaber fishing boat skipper was yesterday fined £500 and banned from driving for a year for driving while twice the legal alcohol limit.
Michael Morrison, 41, of 9 Coteachan Hill, Mallaig, pleaded guilty at Fort William Sheriff Court to committing the offence on the A830 Fort William to Mallaig road near Glenfinnan railway station on April 18.
Fiscal depute Martina Eastwood told the court police stopped Morrison after receiving information that he was drink driving.
She added that his breath test reading was 45 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 22.
Niall MacBeath, representing Morrison, pointed out that his client had no previous convictions and a clean driving licence.
