A man accused of smuggling £68,000 worth of cannabis into Moray has appeared in court.
James Gillies, 34, was arrested by police last week after they stopped a vehicle on the A95 at Marypark.
Yesterday the man, whose address was given as Moray, made no plea when he appeared in the dock in private at Elgin Sheriff Court.
Gillies is accused of possessing and supplying illegal drugs as well as failing to stop his vehicle when asked to do so by a police officer in uniform. After his court appearance the 34-year-old was released on bail.
Police seized the large haul of cannabis resin as it was being transported between Aberlour and Ballindalloch after acting on intelligence. Officers from the CID, roads policing unit and violence reduction unit were involved in the operation.
Gillies appeared in the dock on his own yesterday after appearing with Conor McGregor, 23, of Moray, last week.
