A drunken teenager who assaulted a police officer outside a nightclub has been fined £325.
Thomas Sutherland pinned Maxine Jardine against a wall, Wick Sheriff Court heard yesterday.
The 19-year-old first offender admitted a charge of assault. He was one of a group of people that attracted the attention of the police outside the nightclub at The Shore, Wick, in the early hours of February 28.
What happened next, was described by Ross Carvel, prosecuting.
He,said that Sutherland of 70 Nicolson Street Wick, lashed out at PC Jardine.
Sutherland then thrust his arm under the officer’s neck, forcing her head back and effectively pinning her up against the wall”. Other officers intervened and Sutherland, a shop assistant, was detained.
He was said to have had little recollection of the incident.
Sheriff Andrew Berry said that Sutherland’s behaviour was “typical” of a young man taking too much to drink and “losing the plot” with consequences for a police officer.
The sheriff added that public servants were entitled to be treated with respect.
