A Moray man who fired a shotgun at a young boy and a woman has been jailed for more than two years.
The 59-year-old, previously admitted a catalogue of violence, and appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday for sentence.
Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov described the man’s behaviour as “abhorrent” and said she would be failing in her public duty if she did not send him to prison.
She said he had displayed “controlling and manipulative behaviour” towards one woman, who had to sleep on the floor and outside to get away from him.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, previously admitted assaulting the woman between January 1994 and July 2008 by repeatedly punching her. On one occasion he also threw a rock at her, which narrowly missed her head.
During the abuse he also repeatedly shouted, swore and threatened to kill her.
He also assaulted the boy over a four-year period by seizing and pushing him on the body.
He also admitted attempting to get the boy to lie under oath on his behalf, and breaking a windscreen by punching it.
He was jailed for 30 months.
