Nicky Harold, of 23 Monument Close, admitted possessing cocaine at Lerwick’s Commercial Street on 29 November last year.
He pled guilty to intentionally obstructing two police officers and throwing drugs to the ground in an attempt to avoid detection.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the officers were on foot patrol at around 3.20am when they saw the 29 year old and another man in a shop doorway.
They were undertaking a “transaction”, with Harold then walking away.
He was seen throwing an item to the ground, which was recovered and confirmed to be 0.62g of cocaine, and other substances, with a street value of £40.
Fining Harold sheriff Philip Mann told him that it was a “serious offence” when police were hampered in their duties.
