Assaulting a woman and a police officer earned an Oban man a 10-month jail sentence yesterday.
Scott MacCallum, 33, of 19H Shuna Terrace, appeared for sentencing from custody at Oban Sheriff Court.
He had previously pleaded guilty to the charges.
MacCallum admitted assaulting Arlene Clarke at 8H Scalpay Terrace, Oban, on May 15, by seizing her by the body and throwing a mirror at her, to her injury.
At Oban police station on the same day he assaulted Sergeant Alan Long in the execution of his duty by throwing a container of food at him.
Solicitor Kevin McGuinness said this had been the first time MacCallum and been in jail.
Sheriff Ruth Anderson said: “It really is extraordinary given he has almost five pages of previous convictions.”
Mr McGuinness said MacCallum had been attending Alcoholics Anonymous in prison and had found it “eye opening” and encouraging.
Sheriff Anderson told MacCallum: “I will impose a sentence of custody today. It will give you the opportunity to continue to go to AA meetings and then maybe when you come out at the end of your sentence things may be different for you.”
