A mother and son appeared together in the dock at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday – despite a bail condition preventing them having contact.
The unusual situation was commented upon by Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill when 19-year-old Peter MacCallum and his 40-year-old mother Elizabeth stood before her prior to pleading guilty.
Peter MacCallum, of 120 Anderson Street in Inverness, admitted failing to appear at a previous hearing and he had sentence deferred until September 13 when he is due to stand trial.
He had been bailed for an alleged assault on his mother, and had been ordered not to approach or contact her.
But his defence agent Rory Gowans agreed with the Sheriff that this was unusual, but added: “It sometimes happens and there would be a reasonable excuse argument if a breach of bail charge ensued.”
Elizabeth MacCallum, 151 Mackay Road, pleaded guilty to a drunken breach of the peace at a house in Tomatin Road on February 13 this year and was fined £135.
