A Moray man alarmed military personnel manning the gates at RAF Lossiemouth by “ranting” at them while under the influence of heroin.
Steven Edwards appeared at the guard room of the airbase on Wednesday, September 30, last year.
When police officers were called to the disturbance, they discovered that Edwards had a bag of the class A substance in his pocket.
The unemployed 36-year-old, of 10 Pitgaveny Quay in Lossiemouth, later admitted a drugs possession charge.
And he was fined when he appeared for sentencing at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday.
His lawyer, Brent Lockie, stated that his client had been in the midst of a “brief flirtation” with heroin when the incident took place.
Fiscal Kevin Corrins said: “The accused appeared at the guard room at 2.20pm on the day in question, with a friend.
“Staff there contacted the police to advise them they were worried about the two men, who seemed to be ranting and causing some concern.
“Edwards told the officers that he didn’t do drugs, but they later found he had a quantity of diamorphine worth £10 in his possession.”
The court heard that the accused was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin for checks before being detained at the town’s police station.
Mr Lockie explained that Edwards suffered from mental health problems, but had been of good behaviour since the incident.
He added: “He has emphasised to me that this was a one-off in regards to heroin.
“That is not a problem anymore, this happened at a time where he had a brief flirtation with the drug.”
Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov sought confirmation that the heroin was for the personal use of the accused, before fining him £300.
