Robert Gordon University (RGU) will showcase three industry-leading simulators at next week’s SPE Offshore Europe conference and exhibition in Aberdeen.
The technology on show will include the DRILLSIM:5000 Decom Simulator, which is the first of its kind in the world and is being used to support decommissioning activities in the UK and worldwide.
A collaboration between RGU, the Oil and Gas Technology Centre, KCA Deutag and Drilling Systems, it focuses on well plugging and abandonment.
RGU’s drilling simulation manager, Phil Hassard, said: “Having relocated our DRILLSIM:5000 out to P&J Live for Offshore Europe provides a unique opportunity for visitors to get hands-on experience with this extremely sophisticated piece of kit.
“Since we launched the simulator at the end of 2017, we have been able to support the industry by enhancing the safety, improving the efficiency and reducing the cost associated with decommissioning oil and gas wells.”
RGU will also be exhibiting its On-The-Rig real-time portable simulator, which brings drilling and equipment operations, well control and crane training on to rigs and the MultiSIM well intervention operator training system.
The simulators will be on show in the exhibition’s Life Extension and Decom Zone.
