Runners taking part in a half marathon at Crathes Castle are being encouraged to do their bit for the environment.
Organisers of the PIM Half Marathon will be handing out water in biodegradable plastic cups from a “large water supply” on September 14.
The event also includes a 5km and a children’s 1.5km race.
Paula Sledzinska, events co-ordinator at Crathes Castle, said: “For the first time, we have decided to try and combat plastic waste and make the races as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible.
“This means we’re trying to stop using plastic bottles at water stations.
“Instead, we will be trialling the use of a large water supply which will be distributed to runners in fully compostable cups kindly sponsored by Plan Glow.
“We’re encouraging runners to bring their own favourite running bottle too if they prefer.
“Some splashing about is certainly likely but hopefully the weather is kind to us and we can all do a little bit to help the planet.”
The PIM Half Marathon at Crathes Castle will start at 12pm, and take runners to the grounds of fellow National Trust for Scotland property Drum Castle before a looping back.
Last year, winner Kyle Greig set a new half marathon record of one hour and 10 seconds.
The event will also feature drummers, inflatables and an after-race massage station as well as back check-up stalls.
