Motorists and homeowners are being urged to “be prepared” as heavy rain continues to hit the north-east.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has put an amber alert in place for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

The warning states: “Rivers throughout the region are expected to rise due to prolonged rain on Monday. Potential impacts could include localised flooding of land and roads, including individual properties, particularly in southern areas of the region. Flooding from surface water is also possible during heavier periods of rain on Monday.

“Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.  Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188.

“This flood alert update is now in force until further notice and was sent by phone and sms free of charge to registered customers of our Floodline direct warning service. If you haven’t already signed up to receive free flood messages, please call Floodline or register online at

The Met Office has also issued a warning that “further heavy rain may cause some flooding and disruption to travel”.

It reads: “Rain will become prolonged and heavy at times during Sunday night and well into Monday across eastern Scotland, moving south into southeast Scotland during the day. 15-25 mm of rain is expected widely, with the most exposed high ground seeing 40-60 mm.

“Strong east to northeasterly winds are also expected, particularly near coasts where gusts of 50 mph are likely during Monday afternoon.”
