NFU Scotland has called for the creation of a new forum for debating any environmental issues which affect farmers and crofters.
The union said it was approaching politicians and stakeholder organisations, such as Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), SEPA and Forestry Commission Scotland, to gauge interest in the proposal.
Recently NFUS and SNH reached agreement on sea eagle management – a move which, according to the union, demonstrated the ability for farming and environmental organisations to collaborate together.
NFUS president Nigel Miller said: “The last few years have seen a number of flashpoints develop between conservation and land management interests.
“The situation is unproductive for all concerned and I would like to propose the establishment of a forum where key individuals from our respective organisations can discuss current and future challenges and find solutions before areas of conflict escalate.”
