A pot of £500,000 to attract people and businesses to move to Argyll and Bute and stay in the area is being made available by the local authority.
At its meeting yesterday, Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy and Resources Committee agreed that the Rural Resettlement Fund (RRF) should be used to support businesses, young people and young families relocating or returning to the area.
Councillor Aileen Morton, Policy Lead for Sustainable Economic Growth, said: “Argyll and Bute is recognised as being one of the most promising areas in Scotland, we want people to come here and by promoting the fund we are letting everyone know that there is help available to take up career opportunities or build a successful business here.
“Our focus is to work hard in a number of different ways to encourage and attract people and businesses to live and work in Argyll and Bute.
“The RRF will provide practical help for young people relocating, returning or staying in the area to take up a job or Modern Apprenticeship, young families relocating to take up a job and micro and small or medium enterprises relocating to Argyll and Bute.”
The committee agreed the type of support that would be offered – including grants, relocation packages or rent subsidies – and any conditions that would apply. Details on how to apply will be publicised nationally.
