The first world prawn peeling championships are to be held in the Highlands next month.
The event at Mallaig will find out which competitors can peel a certain number of prawns in the quickest time.
It is part of the Taste the Wild food festival promoting the finest larder the west Highlands has to offer.
Encouraging entries, the organisers said: “Fancy your skills in prawn peeling? Think you can compete with the best of the Mallaig locals?
“Then try your hand at the first World Prawn Peeling Competition. The competition will run throughout the day, ‘Top Gear’ style, with the winner announced at the closing ceremony.”
Taste the Wild on September 10 was created by the Road to the Isles Marketing Organisation.
Shirley Spear – who created the multi-award winning Three Chimneys restaurant on Skye – will also chair a panel discussion with some of the key voices in the fishing industry, asking how consumers and the hospitality industry can support a sustainable and efficient supply chain.
