You can always count on Nairn Games to provide a great day out – and this year Carol Vorderman was spotted enjoying the sights.
The celebrity, famous for co-hosting the popular game show Countdown, was just one of many people who soaked up the atmosphere on Saturday.
Drew Hendry, MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, was there as the local parliamentarian and also to help man the petition to save Fort George stall.
Mr Hendry said: “It was a really successful games. The weather was absolutely fantastic for games day – not too hot but sunny all day.
“Both the locals and the many visitors from Scotland and abroad enjoyed a fantastic games and it showed off Nairn at its very best.
“I didn’t see Carol Vorderman myself, but she had her photograph taken with one of my council colleagues.”
He added: “The save Fort George campaign had a stall and it was busy all day.
“People were very keen to come over and sign the petition and when we were walking about with the clipboards, we were constantly being stopped by people really concerned about supporting Fort George, and very keen to sign up and state their opposition to any possible closure.”
A UK Government minister recently gave an “absolute assurance” that the famous Black Watch battalion will not be axed – but refused to rule out the closure of its Fort George home.
Scotland Office Minister Andrew Dunlop was quizzed by the P&J on the future of the historic garrison while on a visit to Inverness last week.
He confirmed that the future of Fort George was being reviewed – but insisted that the same was true of “all” military bases in the UK.
At the games, athletics, piping and dancing competitions provided an exciting spectacle for the crowds, alongside many stalls and sideshows.
Massed pipes and drums left Viewfield at 12.30pm and marched down the A96 to the Links, where they performed before the drum major competition took place.
Games Day is a very special one for Nairnites, many travelling from the four corners of the world to attend.
