The annual Oban Sea Kayak Race around Kerrera has raised £2,000 for Oban Lifeboat.
Nearly 50 kayakers took part in this year’s race, which took place on August 27.
The demanding route from Oban’s North Pier offers exposed and remote waters and the conditions change year on year. Proceeds from the race are donated to Oban RNLI Lifeboat.
Lifeboat treasurer, Les Stewart, accepted this year’s donation. Since the first race back in 2010, the event has donated more than £14,000 to the lifesaving charity.
A lifeboat spokesman said: “We at Oban lifeboat would like to say huge thank you to everyone that makes this event happen every year, this is a really amazing achievement. The RNLI would not be able to continue on their mission to saving lives at sea without donations like this.”
Gus Brydon, race organiser, said: “‘Oban Sea Kayak Race would especially like to thank the following safety boat cover for the event, without which, the event couldn’t take place; Neil Matheson, Dr Erick Jespersen, Struan and Cameron Smith of Coastal Connection, Donnar Bar from Kilbowie Outdoor Centre and John Doherty.
“The organisers would also like to thank all of the businesses and individuals around Oban bay who continually support this great event every year and make it the success it has become.”
