A Lochaber mountain resort is holding its first ever Rescue Day next month to raise money for the local mountain rescue team (MRT).
Nevis Range, near Fort William, has introduced the new event to generate funds for Lochaber MRT, which is the busiest mountain rescue team in the UK.
LMRT was set up in the late 1960s by local climbers to help fellow climbers in difficulty in the mountains of Lochaber and especially on Ben Nevis.
The majority of the rescues still take place on Ben Nevis, but the team – made up of around 40 men and women aged from early 20s to early 60s – covers more than 1,930 square miles from Creag Mheagaidh in the east to Rum and the Small Isles in the west.
It is staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers and carries out more than 100 mountain rescues every year.
And, like all mountain rescue teams, the vast majority of its funding is raised through donations.
The new fun-packed event, which is being held on Saturday, October 8 from 1pm to 5pm, will offer the opportunity to meet the rescue team, members of the Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) and Nevis Range ski patrol.
Team vehicles and stretchers will also be on show and there will be gondola evacuation, technical ropes and search and rescue dog demonstrations.
There will also be a first aid area and rope area for knots.
And the event will end with a rescue ceilidh with a live local band, which will run from 7.30pm to 11pm.
There will also be an auction with “exclusive prizes money just cannot buy” running from Monday, October 3.
