A Highland country house has been almost completely destroyed by a fierce blaze.
Dozens of firefighters were called to the property between Carrbridge and Dulnain after the alarm was raised.
No one was injured in the incident but the property – known as Mullochard Farmhouse – was extensively damaged.
Its roof was almost collapsed by the heat of the flames and the huge plume of smoke rising from the building could be seen from as far away as Slochd on the A9 Inverness-Perth road.
It is believed the fire may have broken out in the roof space of the stone villa, and may have been burning for some time before it was spotted.
A neighbour alerted the emergency services shortly before 2pm.
It was initially feared the occupants may have been inside but this was later ruled out.
The house belongs to the Seafield Estate and its tenant declined to comment at the scene.
The fire was well developed by the time the emergency services arrived at the scene, with large flames visible from the road.
Fire crews used a specialist high reach unit to spray water down into the building.
They were also forced to make regular trips to a hydrant several hundred yards away.
Police officers stood guard at a cordon put up around the building as firefighters battled to bring the blaze under control.
A fire service spokeswoman confirmed crews had been sent to a “rural property” near Carrbridge and used hosereel jets and a safety jet to extinguish the flames.
The fire was largely brought under control by late afternoon but fire crews remained at the scene well into the evening.
The spokeswoman said: “In attendance were four appliances, a high reach platform from Inverness and a water bowser from Inverness.
“The appliances were from Aviemore, Kingussie and two from Inverness.”
The blaze was the second major fire in Strathspey in recent months.
The nearby tourist attraction Speyside Heather Centre near Dulnain Bridge was almost completely destroyed in a huge blaze in April.
It spread rapidly through the garden centre, and there were a series of explosions as the fire took hold in an area used for whisky tasting.
It remains closed.
