A Scottish motorbiking ace has defied death during a shocking accident in the heat of competition in Australia.
John McPhee was flung from his bike during the Moto3 Grand Prix in Melbourne, and one of his rivals colided into him as the Oban-born rider slid along the track.
The crash occurred just five laps into the race and there was shock among the participants as they saw McPhee lying prone at the circuit.
Yet, incredibly, he suffered no major injury despite his ordeal.
The 22-year-old regained consciousness shortly afterwards and doctors discovered he had only suffered a broken thumb and bruising.
A spokesman for McPhee’s Peugeot MC Saxoprint team said: “He’s in the hospital for checks. He has pains everywhere.”
