Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously assaulted in an Oban street.
The attack, which left a 28-year-old man with facial injuries, took place in the early hours of Saturday morning in Glencruitten Road, near Mossfield Stadium.
Inspector Mark Stephen of Oban Police Station said: “At 5.50am on Saturday a 28-year-old man was assaulted in Glencruitten Road in Oban. He required hospital treatment. Inquiries are on going.
“If anybody has got any information about this can they please contacct DC Alistair Dewar at Oban Police Office on 101.”
The victim was taken to Lorn and Islands Hospital in Oban where he was treated for facial injuries and later released.
It is understood that the injured man was discovered by a local postman who was doing his rounds on Saturday morning. An ambulance was called.
Officers performed door to door inquiries and a section of the pavement near Glencruitten Road’s junction with Quarry Road was taped off while a police vehicle guarded the crime scene until lunchtime.
Marri Malloy, chairwoman of Oban Community Council, said: “I heard the man was found by a postman. It is shocking for Oban that this should happen. We never normally hear about things like this happening.
“We are upset, it is dreadful. That this should happen here. We don’t know if there was a fight or whether it was just a random attack.
“If it was a random attack something will need to be done about this.”
One local resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I saw the police speaking to a group of youths, they must have been asking if they had seen anything. There was an officer parked there all morning.
“It is terrible to think that someone could have been attacked like that. This is normally a quiet area. I hope the guy is OK.”
