Dornoch is the only Scottish finalist in this year’s Great British High Street awards – and the picturesque Highland town needs your votes.
It has been shortlisted in the Rising Star category, which recognises communities which have worked to change the fortunes of their town centres.
But Dornoch faces stiff competition from the much higher populated English towns of Leominster and Stockton-on-Tees.
The final result is split between a public vote and a judging panel.
In the past three years, businesses in Dornoch have worked together to market the town as a visitor destination through a new website, app and social media.
Dornoch ambassadors have also been on the street to greet visitors and the new visitor centre was opened in the Courthouse with free wi-fi.
Joan Bishop, chairwoman of Dornoch Area Community Interest Company, said: “The new visitor centre has seen a 30% increase in numbers this year. Our success in Dornoch is due to the support of the whole community. But to win this national award we now need everyone in the wider area to vote daily. Help us make sure our small town packs a big punch.”
Local councillor Jim McGillivray also re-iterated an earlier plea for votes from the community and all those who have visited the town in the past.
If Dornoch wins, the community will get a share of a prize pot worth £100,000, and will win expert training from Google’s digital taskforce for shops, bars and restaurants and a trip to Twitter UK’s London office to further boost their social media skills.
The deadline for public voting is November 18 at www.thegreatbritishhighstreet.co.uk/finalist-rising-star
