The UK’s elite skiers and snowboarders will be given free access to the north’s mountain pistes this season.
Investment worth £87,000 will support 150 all-day season tickets which give the competitive winter athletes access to the slopes and free training at an all-year-round, indoor snowsports centre at Braehead near Glasgow.
A key benefit of the passes is that they save money and time for athletes and coaches queuing for ski lifts wherever they area training.
This may be at any of Scotland’s five mountain ski areas which include CairnGorm Mountain, Glencoe Mountain, Glenshee, The Lecht and Nevis Range.
Ski-Scotland and these five mountain ski areas have banded together to invest in the free tickets and sponsorship has been provided by Team GB and Team Scotland, with free training at Braehead being provided by Snow Factor.
Heather Negus, chairwoman of Ski-Scotland, said: “Our snowsports areas have long supported Scottish and UK elite ski and snowboard athletes by giving them free access to the slopes.
“For the last few seasons we have done this on a more co-ordinated and formal basis by issuing free All-Area Tickets to these athletes, their coaches and also up-and-coming skiers and snowboarders. This allows us to include not only the elite members of Team GB and Team Scotland but also assist and encourage the development of younger competitive athletes.”
