A severe weather warning has been issued for the Highlands, with ice and snow forecast for tonight.
The Met Office issued the yellow warning, which means be aware, amid forecasts of rain, wind, snow, ice and fog in the region.
The adverse conditions are expected to primarily affect those on the west coast, with slippy driving conditions also anticipated in the central belt.
Wintry showers late this evening and overnight into Friday will lead to ice and and wet road surfaces.
Additionally, 1-3 cm of snow may accumulate on hills above around 100-200 m and more than 6 cm above 400 m.
Some of the heaviest showers could produce slushy conditions even at low levels.
The Met Office’s Chief Forecaster said: “A cold northwesterly airstream will bring heavy showers or rain, sleet, snow and hail through this period.
“Clear spells in between will allow temperatures to fall close to or below freezing – hence the likelihood of some ice.”
Road users have been advised to take care.
