A demonstration was due to be held in Wick this morning amid concerns over a planned downgrade of maternity services in Caithness.
Members of the Caithness Health Action Team (Chat) and other concerned residents plan to gather outside of Wick Town Hall ahead of a meeting of the county’s area council committee.
It follows confirmation from NHS Highland last week that they are recommending changing Caithness General Hospital’s maternity service from consultant-led to being led by midwives.
The health board carried out a full review of maternity services after the e.coli sepsis infection just 40 hours after she was born at the hospital last year.
NHS Highland published their report late last week and will consider it at a meeting of the health board next week.
The issue is not on the agenda for tomorrow’s council meeting.
However, it is understood that a move will be made to discuss the problems at as an emergency item.
Chat has said the demonstration is to raise awareness of the depth of feeling around the issue.
