Councillors yesterday voted to refuse controversial plans for an anaerobic digester plant at an Easter Ross farm.
The facility near Rosskeen, Invergordon. would have been used to convert farm feedstock into bio-methane to supply the gas network and produce nutrient-rich fertiliser.
But applicant David Gill, of Rosskeen Farms, was unsuccessful after committee members voted against his plans by nine to four.
Area planning manager north Dafydd Jones had told members during the discussion that, during the usual six week harvest period, up to 64 vehicles a day would use the plant from farms within an eight mile radius of the plant.
Cromarty Firth councillor Maxine Smith put forward the motion to refuse the plans on the grounds that it would be detrimental to local residential amenity and that it would pose significant traffic movement issues on the existing road network.
Following the meeting local objectors John Mackenzie and Alec Davidson said they were not against the plant itself but its location. They both said they were “delighted” with the decision.
