About 1,500 revellers saw in Hogmanay at a street party in Wick where local band Penny Lane impressed with an extensive repertoire of pop, rock and traditional Scottish music.
The Kirk Lane event in the town centre climaxed with the relayed sound of the Big Ben bongs and a dazzling midnight fireworks display.
Event organiser Allan Farquhar said: “It was a great night and we had really good turnout.
“We were fortunate. We had a break in the weather and it stayed dry for us in Wick until about 2.30am.
“The band have been doing really well for the last couple of years and they have a great, young following that all came along.
“They stayed right to the very end and gave a great support to the band. It’s great to see a good local band coming through.”
Local medical staff were remembered with a huge round of applause for working through the festive period.
Mr Farquhar added his gratitude to local contractors who had donated essential equipment and barriers free of charge for the Hogmanay event.
