A pedestrian has been taken to hospital this morning with serious head injuries after being struck by a car on a north road.
The man has been taken to Raigmore hospital and his injuries have been described as serious.
Police and ambulance both attended the scene on Barn Church Road, Inverness, and the route is expected to remain closed for some time.
The crash is understood to have taken place shortly after 6am.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and expect delays in the area.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Around 6.20am this morning a collision occurred between a male pedestrian and a VW Passat on Tower Road, close to the junction with Murray Road.
“The pedestrian has been taken to Raigmore Hospital where he is being treated for a head injury. The road remains closed between the Barn Church Road and Murray Road junctions to allow an investigation to take place.
“Diversions are in place.”
They added: “No further details are available on the pedestrian just now. A further release will be issued when the road is open.”
