Police have named a man killed after being struck by a car on a Black Isle road.
36-year-old George Jack was involved in the collision on the A832 at Station Road, Avoch, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
The road was closed for several hours following the accident between a white Ford Fiesta and Mr Jack, who was from the local area.
He was initially taken to Raigmore Hospital and later Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, however he has since died from his injuries.
In a statement, Mr Jack’s family said: “We are understandably devastated by our loss. We would ask that our privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time.”
The incident led to new year events being cancelled in the village, including Avoch Community Rowing Club’s “New Year’s Day with the Skiffties”, which was due to feature a dip in the sea and a bonfire.
The club posted on social media: “There has been a bad accident in Avoch. The road is closed. Today’s activities have been cancelled.”
Inquiries are still ongoing in relation to the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101.
