Plans have been lodged for a development of 20 new affordable homes near a Highland beauty spot.
Bungalows, villas and flats have been proposed for the Albyn Housing Society scheme at Drumnadrochit, by the west shore of Loch Ness.
It is part of a wider development, previously approved in principle, for land north of the A82 Inverness to Fort William road, at Smiddy Bar, Lewiston.
The houses would be arranged around a central parking area, which will provide 30 spaces for vehicles.
Access to the development would be gained from a new roundabout on the A82, while pedestrian links would also be created.
Robin Nairn, chief operating officer at Albyn Housing Society, said: “This joint project between Albyn Housing Society and the Highland Housing Alliance aims to bring 20 new affordable homes to Drumnadrochit, providing a range of tenure including affordable rent, mid-market rent and low cost home ownership.
“Forming part of a larger masterplan, the development will contribute to the sustainability of the local community by helping to meet current housing demand, as well as the delivery of the Scottish Government’s housing target of 50,000 homes by 2020.”
Gail Matheson, chief executive at Highland Housing Alliance, said: “Highland Housing Alliance is delighted to be involved in this development, which will bring much needed homes to young people and families.
“We look forward to working with Albyn Housing Society on this development.”
Supporting documents, lodged this week with the planning application, say that the layout “reflects a traditional street pattern and that of the scale of the village of Drumnadrochit, whilst also complying with the Scottish Government’s advice on ‘Designing Streets”.
There would be eight flats with two bedrooms, four bungalows with one bedroom, two bungalows with two bedrooms, four villas with two bedrooms, and two villas with three bedrooms.
Pedestrian links are to be created along the main road, buffered by planting and a low wall, and there will be routes through the site connecting it to the wider development.
A grass verge will be maintained along the A82 which will act as a buffer to the pedestrian access to the street-fronting homes.
