Plans are in motion to create a super campus in Tain that will replace all the schools in the town.
The £45million development would see the current Tain Royal Academy and community centre being demolished and would also take pupils from Craighill and Knockbreck Primary, as well as the St Duthus School for children with complex needs.
The academy was built in 1969 with an extension added in 1978 as the roll rose to 840.
Tain councillor Alasdair Rhind has hailed it as a significant investment for the Easter Ross town and said it is “a very badly-needed investment”.
He added: “Our schools are long past their sell-by-date. Our facilities are not the best for teaching young people.”
