Four men who were detained in connection with the alleged distribution of counterfeit banknotes in the Highlands were released from custody yesterday.
They had been due to appear at Tain Sheriff Court in connection with alleged incidents on Monday, but did not.
The men – aged 16, 20, 23 and 25 – were detained on Monday after police stopped a vehicle on the A9 following reports that local businesses had reported use of fake £50 notes.
Yesterday, a Crown Office spokesman said: “The Procurator Fiscal received a report concerning four males aged 16, 20, 23 and 25, in connection with alleged incidents on 16 January, 2017.
“After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, they were liberated from custody pending further inquiries and did not appear in court.”
