Highland Council has finally been given the keys to a new £48.5million school campus – three months later than expected.
The development – which includes a new Wick High School, Newton Park Primary School, and community facilities – had been due to be completed by October.
Despite being handed over yesterday to the local authority by developer Hub North Scotland, there is still further work to be carried out and pupils are not expected to move in until the end of next month.
A council spokesman said: “Highland Council has updated Wick Campus stakeholders and confirmed that the campus has now been handed over by Hub North Scotland to the council.
“The building is not as yet operational, and there are a number of outstanding works to be completed.
“The post-handover period will see commissioning, snagging and other work take place, prior to the council commencing decant into the new buildings and confirming the building as operationally ready.
“The council continues to work towards the decant dates previously advised to stakeholders.
“A stakeholder group meeting on January 31 is proposed to provide further update.”
