The Scottish Ambulance Service’s north manager Milne Weir insisted it was committed to ensuring patients get the right resource at the right time, in line with a new “clinical response model.”
He said: “We’re continuing to work closely with our partners to monitor demand and review performance to ensure patients get the quickest and most appropriate resource.
“As part of £5million additional investment, we’ve introduced 12 new ambulance posts in Highland including new ambulance staff for Bettyhill and Golspie and a specialist paramedic who’s currently undertaking training, based in Kinlochbervie.”
He said the new recruits had enabled the service to increase its quota of relief staff and enhance its cover.
“This will allow us to further improve patient care and save more lives,” he said.
“Highland will also benefit from the introduction of new vehicles as part of the £77.8million national fleet replacement programme and the £175,000 investment in vital trauma equipment currently being rolled out in all our accident and emergency vehicles.”
