Temperatures of down to -2C were recorded in Orkney, but sunshine is expected to emerge later on. A met spokesman said: “Today a ridge of high pressure will dominate conditions for much of the day. “There will be some sunshine later in the day and temperatures are expected to rise to around 7C.” “Winds will peak up during the day becoming strong in the Hebrides.” However the improved weather conditions are not expected to last beyond today. The spokesman added: “On Tuesday there are expected to be outbreaks of rain and winds teaching gale force across the Islands.”
