An area of Wick Harbour was cordoned off after a vehicle fire in an industrial unit.
Concern was raised about gas cylinders within the warehouse, prompting a wide exclusion zone around the building.
Fire crews were able to contain the blaze to the vehicle, which was described as being “well alight”.
The warehouse belongs to Caithness company Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd, a plant fire and oils firm.
The company could not be contacted last night.
The fire service said it was alerted to the fire shortly before 3pm.
Two crews from Wick and a third from John O’Groats were called to the scene.
The area was cordoned off while firefighters dealt with the incident.
Crews used breathing apparatus to enter the warehouse and a high pressure hosereel jet to extinguish the the fire.
The service was unable to say last night what type of vehicle was on fire – but it is understood to be extensively damaged.
After the fire was brought under control the crews remained at the scene for some time to watch over the scene.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “It was reported to us as a vehicle alight within a warehouse in Wick, measuring 60m by 60m (196ftx196ft).
“Four breathing apparatus and a high pressure hosereel jet have been in use.”
She added: “There was initially concern about gas cylinders in the building but these have not been involved.”
Crews finally left the scene around 4.50pm.
