Thieves tried to break into the shop in a Caithness village.
Police are investigating after the attempted theft at the village shop in Dunbeath.
Extensive damage was caused to the shop entrance around 2.45am yesterday.
Sergeant Douglas Green said: “This is a particularly disappointing incident involving the local shop being targeted by someone with little concern for the local community. Local officers are making active enquiries to trace the person or persons responsible and to assist the investigation we would appeal to anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the early hours of this morning to make contact with Police”
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.
