This dramatic footage captures the moment an unwell walker was winched to safety from the UK’s highest mountain.
At around 2.25pm yesterday the UK Coastguard received a call from police about a walker that had taken ill on a ridge while climbing on Carn Mor Dearg, Ben Nevis.
The coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at Inverness was called to action and went to the man, 3,500ft above sea level.
He was airlifted to Torlundy and taken to hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service. The walker is believed to be safe and well.
Scott Sharman, paramedic winchman said that despite it being a beautiful clear day, the winch was particularly challenging due to its isolated location and the length of the winch needed to ensure the walking party’s safety.
He said: “It was an extremely steep ridge and we needed to make sure we kept at a safe distance because the downdraft could very easily have blown them over the ridge.”
