Police are investigating a “suspicious” fire which damaged the front door of a house in Alness.
The incident happened around 8.40pm on Monday evening in the town’s Teaninich Street.
The fire was extinguished by the occupants of the house and no-one was hurt.
A man was seen in the area at the time who police are now trying to track down.
He is described as standing 6ft 6in tall and is of stocky build.
At the time he was wearing a top and trousers which were light in colour.
A police spokeswoman said: “Anyone with any information that may be useful should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting NE3139/17 or speak to any police officer.
“Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
