A woman’s body has been recovered from a burnt out house, six days after the blaze in northwest Sutherland. Edith Allan, who was 65, was believed to be alone in the property at Sangomore, Durness. The fire was reported shortly before 2am last Monday. Extensive structural damage was caused to the building, rendering it unsafe for a number of days. A spokesman for the force said: “Officers have now recovered the remains of a female. “Formal identification will take place. But the family of Edith Allan have been updated by officers who will continue to provide support.” Inquiries into the cause of the fire are continuing but the force said there were no suspicious circumstances. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
